Getting paid by your customers
Online payments are optional and pay as you go. There is no monthly fee for taking cards.
- Money goes straight to you. Customers pay by card when they book; Stripe deposits it into your bank account on a rolling basis.
- Per online transaction: Stripe’s standard card processing fee, plus a 1% Embercabin platform fee on Free and Pro. On Team and Business we take nothing — you pay Stripe’s rate and nothing else.
- In-person payments are free. Bookings settled with cash or your own EFTPOS carry no Embercabin fee at all.
Pricing questions
- Can I change plans later?
- Yes, upgrade or downgrade anytime. Changes are prorated and take effect immediately.
- Do you charge per user?
- No. Every plan includes seats (5 on Free, 10 on Pro, 25 on Team, 100 on Business) at no extra cost. If you outgrow them, add extra seats to any paid plan for $9/mo (A$15) each. There are no forced plan upgrades. Most booking tools price per staff member or per bookable calendar, so their cost multiplies with your team while ours does not.
- What does it cost when my customers pay me online?
- Card payments go straight to your bank account via Stripe. On Free and Pro you pay Stripe's standard card processing fee plus a 1% Embercabin platform fee. On Team and Business we take nothing at all — you pay only Stripe's rate. Bookings you settle in person (cash, EFTPOS) cost nothing on every plan, and we never charge commission on your clients.
- Do you send SMS / text reminders?
- Email reminders, confirmations, and review requests are included on every plan. Text messaging (SMS) is an optional add-on: $19/mo (A$29) including 250 texts a month, then 10c (A$0.15) per text, because each SMS carries a real carrier cost. Contact us to switch it on for your account.
- What payment methods do you accept?
- All major cards via secure checkout. Australian customers are billed in AUD; everyone else in USD.
- Is Embercabin the cheapest booking software?
- For most small service businesses, yes. The Free plan costs nothing forever and — unusually — lets you take online payments and deposits. Pro is US$19/month (A$29) for 10 seats, which is where the gap opens up, because most rivals charge per staff member or per calendar. Priced for a five-person team as at 31 July 2026: Acuity needs its Standard plan at US$34/month (its US$20 Starter plan covers only one calendar), Vagaro works out around US$64, Fresha around US$75 plus a 20% fee on every new client it introduces, Setmore US$60 on monthly billing, and Booksy about US$110. Square Appointments is the closest on price at A$40 per location, but bills per location as you grow.
- Is there a contract?
- No lock-in. Monthly plans are month-to-month; annual plans give you two months free.
- What happens to my data if I cancel?
- You keep access until the end of your billing period and can export your data anytime.
